Rumor Reconnaissance

Rumor Reconnaissance is an Epoch 2 Mission that lets you investigate a public Rumor without capturing or resolving the World Event behind it. A successful investigation gives your Profile reliable Intel about the reported Event and can also reveal other current Events nearby.

If these concepts are new, start with World Events, Rumors & Intel.

Starting Reconnaissance

Select a Rumor on the World Map and use its eye-shaped Recon action. The game loads the Heroes who are currently eligible for that Rumor. A Hero must:

  • belong to your Profile and be idle;
  • have a Residence on one of your Lands;
  • be on the same Continent as the Rumor.

The Hero list is ordered by return time. Each row shows the Hero's return time and the latest possible Mission completion time. The list is scrollable and uses pages of up to ten Heroes. Hovering a row or focusing it with the keyboard previews the route without creating public movement.

The list is a current preview, not a reservation. If the Hero or Rumor becomes unavailable before launch, the final Mission check rejects the launch safely.

Cost

The level-0 Mission can cost:

ItemMinimumMaximum
Gold1025
Lucky Coin01

You must be able to afford the maximum possible cost before launch. The Mission then chooses one concrete amount within those ranges and uses that same amount throughout the Mission. Rumor Reconnaissance does not support Auto-repeat.

Time

Each travel leg uses the map distance and the selected Hero's regular movement speed. Field investigation uses the Hero's Intelligence performance and applicable Mission-duration effects.

The Mission summary separates:

  • Work — the field investigation time;
  • Total duration — travel to the Rumor, Work, and travel Home.

The Hero picker also shows the latest possible Mission completion time. It can be up to five minutes later than the Hero's return while the game finishes a bounded Intel-processing attempt. During that short phase the Hero is Home but remains busy.

Results

The Mission always investigates the exact Event that was linked to the selected Rumor when the Mission was launched:

  • if the Event is still available when the investigation finishes, you receive positive Profile Intel;
  • if somebody already completed it, or it was cancelled or expired, you receive safe negative Intel stating that nothing remains;
  • if a technical problem prevents reliable target Intel before the bounded deadline, the Mission can finish without target Intel.

Positive and negative target Intel hides that Rumor for your Profile. It does not hide the Rumor for other players. If no target Intel is created, the Rumor remains visible while it is otherwise current.

Reconnaissance also makes one attempt to reveal every current unknown Event within three hexes of the reported Rumor location. Intel becomes usable as soon as it is written, including while the Hero is returning.

Reconnaissance never captures, completes, cancels, or rewards the World Event. Its purpose is information.
