World Map

The World Map is the shared geography of War of Continents. It shows where Lands and current world activity are located, gives distance and travel their spatial meaning, and provides the setting for Rumors, Intel, and moving Heroes.

Opening the Map

Your Profile needs a Civilization Center before it can enter the World Map. If you have not established one, opening Map starts the setup flow instead. See Civilization Center & Land Placement.

Once established, your Center and placed Lands keep their positions. Returning to the map shows another bounded view of the same persistent Continent rather than generating a new private map.

The Three Views

Local

Local is the primary gameplay view. It shows a detailed radius-5 area with terrain, map records, and current movements. Use the six directional controls to move by one displayed Local area, or enter axial q and r coordinates and select Go.

Medium

Medium shows a larger radius-20 area for regional orientation. Select a cell to inspect its safe information. Double-select a playable cell to open that point in Local detail.

Whole Map

Whole Map is a large overview selector. It uses a coarser terrain sample so you can choose a part of the Continent without loading every detailed cell. Select a playable overview cell to open the corresponding Medium area.

Camera scaling only changes how the current projection fits on screen. It does not silently load a larger authoritative map area.

Terrain and Borders

Local and Medium show the persistent biome and visual variation of each loaded playable cell, including compact lake edges or corners where present. Whole Map uses a lighter sampled presentation and omits that per-cell lake detail. The same location keeps its terrain between visits.

At the permanent edge of the Continent, ocean, desert, or mountain boundary terrain can appear inside the current view. These cells are visual context and cannot be selected as playable destinations.

Map terrain currently has no automatic gameplay effect. It does not change:

  • Hero movement speed;
  • production or rewards;
  • Land rarity;
  • ownership;
  • Land placement rules;
  • Mission outcomes.

What the Map Can Show

Depending on the selected layers and your current knowledge, the map can show:

  • public Lands and other supported public records;
  • public Rumors at their reported locations;
  • World Events at their actual locations when you have applicable Intel;
  • current public Hero movements;
  • terrain and the non-playable Continent boundary.

Filters only change what is drawn from information already available to you. They never reveal a hidden Event or grant Intel.
